Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 features, powertrain

Mahindra has equipped the entry-level Thar Roxx variant with LED lighting, a dual-tone exterior finish, 18-inch steel wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, push-button start, driver's seat height adjustment, 60:40 split-folding rear bench seats, rear AC vents, and a rear USB-C port. For safety, the MX1 variant comes with six airbags, ESC, and three-point seat belts for all passengers.

This base Roxx variant comes with a 162hp, 330Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 152hp, 330Nm, 2.2-litre diesel engine, both paired with a manual gearbox. The MX1 features a multilink rear suspension setup with Watts linkage, Mahindra's ‘Frequency Dependent Damping’ technology for enhanced ride quality, and electronic power steering.

In terms of off-road capability, Mahindra says the Roxx MX1, which is also equipped with a brake locking diff, has a water-wading depth of 650mm and approach and departure angles of 41.3 degrees and 36.1 degrees, respectively.

Mahindra Thar Roxx MX3 features, powertrain

The Roxx MX3 adds drive modes (Zip and Zoom), terrain modes (snow, sand, and mud), a rear camera, hill ascent and descent assist, and a traction control system. The petrol-automatic variant also includes rear disc brakes. Additional features for this variant include cruise control, a rear seat armrest, an auto-dimming IRVM, wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and smartphone charging.

Mahindra Thar Roxx AX3 L features, powertrain

Compared to the MX3, the AX3 L adds ADAS features, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and an automatic climate control system.

Mahindra Thar Roxx MX5 features, powertrain

The MX5 further gets C-shaped LED DRLs, LED fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a single pane sunroof, leatherette seats and steering cover, ambient lighting, a tyre pressure monitor, auto headlight and wipers, and front parking sensors. 4x4 tech is an option on this variant, and these versions get an electronic locking diff too.

    Mahindra Thar Roxx AX5 L, AX7 L features, powertrain

While the AX5 L adds an electronic parking brake to the MX5's features, the top-spec AX7 L gets a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloys, powered 6-way adjustable driver's seat, ventilated front seats, a cooled glove box, a front camera and 360 degree cameras, a blind spot monitor, power folding ORVMs and a 9-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.

The range-topping Thar Roxx AX7 L 4x4 variants also get a 'Smart Crawl' and a 'Intelliturn' feature. The former is a off-road cruise control system that can be activated between 2.5kph and 30kph, while the latter allows the Roxx to make extremely tight turns by locking the rear inner wheel based on the steering direction. This feature operates at speeds under 15kph and can only be activated for 15 seconds

    Mahindra Thar Roxx exterior styling

Compared to the 3-door Thar, the Roxx gets a new grille design that's divided into six, double-stacked slots, unlike the seven slots present in the Thar 3-door. The headlamps retain the circular design, but they now get an LED projector setup with C-shaped Daytime Running Lamps – higher variants are expected to get LED fog lamps. The front bumper has some unique design elements as well with integrated fog lamp housings and faux brushed aluminium bits at the centre. Top-spec variants are likely to have fog lamps with a cornering function.

    Mahindra Thar Roxx side

The Roxx gets chunky wheel arches and stylish 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels for the higher variants, while mid variants will likely get 18-inch alloys. While the front door looks identical to the standard Thar, the rear door gets a unique, vertically positioned handle. The quarter glass aft of the rear door has a triangular shape, similar to the Thar EV concept. The Thar Roxx will have a dual-tone paint shade for most variants – with a contrast black roof – that will give it a removable hardtop look.

At the rear, it looks quite similar to the Thar 3-door, but a closer look confirms the mildly reprofiled tail lamps with C-shaped LEDs and a tailgate design that also accommodates the rear wiper and washer.

Mahindra Thar Roxx interior features and tech

On the inside, the Thar Roxx gets the same dashboard as the 3-door, but there are certain premium elements like soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door pads, at least in the higher variants. The interior has a dual-tone theme with beige perforated leatherette seats and a dark brown dashboard with some contrast bits. There are dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation duties on top trims.

Those higher variants are also expected to get cooled seats for the front row, ambient and footwell lighting, a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, all four power windows, a sliding front armrest, a cooled glove box and a remote fuel opening setup – all these are missing on the Thar 3-door.
