Mercedes-Benz has launched the new C 300 AMG Line in India, which has been priced at Rs 69 lakh. Confirming our previous scoop, the new C 300 AMG Line replaces the erstwhile C 300d AMG Line, and is the new range-topping model in the C-Class lineup. Mercedes-Benz has also introduced new features across the C-Class range and the GLC SUV.
- C-Class gets new ventilated front seats, 360-deg camera
- GLC SUV gets ventilated front seats, more airbags
- BMW M340i just about Rs 4 lakh more expensive than C 300 AMG Line
The rationale behind this variant rejig is a shift in demand from diesel to petrol in the luxury sedan segment. Santosh Iyer, CEO and managing director, Mercedes-Benz India, in a previous interaction with Autocar India, had said nearly 70 percent of its sedans sold are petrol variants.
Here's a look at the updated price range of the C-Class in India:
Mercedes C-Class price (ex-showroom) | |

Interestingly, BMW's range-topping 3 Series in India, the M340i, is just about Rs 4 lakh more expensive, at Rs 72.90 lakh, and comes much more potent 374hp, 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Meanwhile, the performance-oriented C 43 AMG is priced at a whopping Rs 98.25 lakh.
Mercedes C 300 AMG Line: what’s new?
Powering the new C 300 is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 258hp and 400Nm of torque. The engine gets an integrated starter generator (ISG) that provides an additional output of 22hp and 205Nm, and an overboost function that provides 27hp of additional power for approximately 30 seconds. Mercedes claims the overboost function can be activated several times in succession until the defined temperature limits are reached.
The engine comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 6 seconds and a top speed of 250kph. For reference, the outgoing 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine in the C 300d produced 265hp and 550Nm of torque, and was priced much lower at Rs 62.70 lakh.
As before, the top-of-the-line C-Class comes dressed with the AMG Line package that brings sportier looking front and rear bumpers and a few AMG-specific touches on the inside. It also gets the ‘Night Package’ as standard that gives the cabin a blacked-out look. Mercedes is also offering the C 300 with Manufaktur colour options including Patagonia red bright and Sodalite Blue.
Some exclusive features on the C 300 include a Burmester 3D surround sound system, digital lights, augmented reality navigation, blind spot assist and keyless-go comfort package.
