The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has become the second Maruti rebadged model in the company’s portfolio to sell over 1,00,000 units at the wholesale level in India. Toyota achieved this milestone in September – in almost exactly 2 years since its launch in September 2022 – and at the end of October, the Toyota Hyryder had clocked a total of 1,07,975 units.

    1. Hyryder comprised about a fourth of Toyota's UV sales in April-October 2024
    2. It ranked sixth in midsize SUV sales in FY2024, 19th in UV sales in FY2025's first half

The Toyota Glanza hatchback, born of the Maruti Baleno, was Toyota’s first rebadged model to register 1 lakh sales. By the end of October, the company had dispatched 1,91,029 units of the hatchback to dealerships.

In the current fiscal’s first seven months (April to October), the sales of Toyota Hyryder surged 52 percent year on year (YoY) to 36,220 units, accounting for about a fourth of Toyota’s total utility vehicle wholesales of 1,47,351 units. In early October, to make the most of the festive season’s momentum, Toyota launched the Hyryder Festival Limited Edition

In the financial year that ended March 2024 (FY2024), the Hyryder’s despatches had jumped 114 percent to 48,916 units. In a field teeming with rivals, including the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Mahindra’s Bolero, Bolero Neo and Thar, the Toyota Hyryder did well and ranked sixth in FY2024.

In the first six months of FY2025, with dispatches of 30,771 units, the Hyryder was ranked 19th among India’s top 20 utility vehicles.

Toyota Hyrder is India’s bestselling rebadged model

Following Toyota Corp’s global product-sharing pact with Suzuki Corp, Toyota’s move to introduce Maruti-rebadged models has paid off handsomely. Currently, four badge-engineered models in India bear the Toyota logo – the Rumion (based on the Maruti Ertiga), Urban Cruiser Taisor (based on the Maruti Fronx), Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
