The EQB is the all-electric version of the GLB and the carmaker’s second EV SUV in India after the EQC. Like the GLB, the EQB is also a 7-seater and the range-topping EQB 350 4Matic comes equipped with a 66.5kWh battery pack and offers a WLTP-certified range of 423km.
Being based on the GLB, it has similar dimensions, near-identical proportions and the same upright design. However, the EQB adds certain EV-specific elements like a blanked-off front grille, and an LED light bar for the headlights and taillights – all this make it a little more futuristic than the GLB.
The EQB 350 4Matic is powered by twin motors – one at the front axle and the other at the rear. Combined, the two motors make 229hp and 390Nm of peak torque. The motors are powered by a 66.5kWh battery pack and the EQB has a WLTP-certified range of 423km. In terms of charging, it is capable of 100kW fast charging that manages to charge it from 10-80 percent in 32 minutes.
Inside, the EQB is similar to the GLB but it gets copper tone finish on the AC vents, seat fabric and in a couple of other places to distinguish it from its ICE-powered counterpart. Equipment on offer is also similar but the EQB neatly incorporates a separate EQ menu which lets you access all the electric system related functions. The second row seating is not as comfortable as in the GLB, because the battery, placed between the wheels, intrudes into the passenger space.
The EQB feels better to drive than its ICE-powered sibling thanks to its smooth and responsive take-off, and its strong power delivery even at higher motor speeds. The EQB also rides better than the GLB, with it taking bigger bumps and potholes well without deflection. It is also a lot of fun to chuck into the corners and the consistent steering also helps accurately place the SUV into corners at speeds. However, the brakes could have been stronger.
The EQB 250+ costs Rs 70.90 lakh and the EQB 350 4Matic is priced at Rs 77.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is not only pleasant and refined but also genuinely fun to drive. Its 423km range is more than sufficient and Mercedes has done enough to distinguish it from the ICE-powered GLB. Still best as a two-row SUV, the additional third row gives you that flexibility. It is expensive but the EQB is a very well rounded product and there’s a lot going for it.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB offers a variety of color options. Mercedes-Benz EQB is available in a range of 7 colors. The colors offered in Mercedes-Benz EQB are Designo Magno Mountain Grey, Manufaktur Patagonia Red, Polar White, High-tech Silver, Spectral Blue, Cosmos Black Metallic and Mountain Grey Metallic.
